Siddharth Nagar district is located in Uttar Pradesh state where River West Rapti flows through. The district is sited at a distance of 242 km away from the state capital Lucknow and 713 km away from the national capital Delhi.

About Siddharth Nagar

People of all religion and communities reside in Siddharth Nagar of which Muslims forms the majority of population as per census date and the locals mostly speak Hindi and Urdu. The district has no notable industrial establishments in its grounds for the reason why the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in 2006 listed Siddharth Nagar as one of the most backward industrial development district of India and currently the district is getting funds from BRGF i.e. “Backward Regions Grand Fund Programme” to upgrade its industrial infrastructure.

Siddharth Nagar records a total population of 25,59,297 as per 2011 population census. The density of population in Siddharth Nagar is recorded as 882 people per sq km. The district before 1989 December 29th was a part of Basti district. The northern regions of Basti districts form the new Siddharth Nagar  district from 1989.

History of Siddharth Nagar

Siddharth Nagar district is of historic and spiritual importance. The Piprahwa locality in the district was once a part of Kapilavastu where Gautam Buddha spent 29 years before enlightenment and he again visited Kapilavastu after 12 years upon enlightenment. This region was earlier a part of Shakya dynasty which was ruled by Gautama Buddha father Suddhodana and the regime was one of the 16 independent territories of 6th century BC. Prince Siddharth the heir prince of Shakya dynasty was named Shayamuni which means “Sage of Shakyas” after the clan name.

History of Siddharth Nagar

The large stupa in Piprahwa regions said to home the bone relics of Gautama Buddha. Also the text in the stupa mentions about a monastery named “Devaputra” in this region. An inscription on ancient Brahmi was also found in these regions. As per archaeological survey Siddharth Nagar has a relation with Kushan period. Two mounds near Piprahwa and Ganvaria believed to be the palace of King Suddhodana.

Siddharth Nagar is bounded by Balrampur District in the west, Basti District in the South and Maharajganj District in the East. 

Siddharth Nagar homes numerous ponds or Talabs in its grounds like Siria Naukhan, Baidaula Naukhan, Naukhan pond and numerous river flows through various parts of the city.

Siddharth Nagar experiences a hot and long summers and cool and short winters. Monsoon in Siddharth Nagar is pleasant. The summer day time temperature in Siddharth Nagar ranges in between 26° C to 46° C. Summer in Siddharth Nagar prevails in the months of March, April and May with an average day time temperature of 26° C, 32° C and 37° C respectively. The months of January and February are quite pleasant in the district with temperature ranging in between 16° C to 18° C.

Naugarh is the district Headquarters of Siddharth Nagar which is located on Naugarh Pahadi River and the transport in the city is supported by NH 233 and UP SH 5 which runs from top to bottom of the city. The Panani city is sited on the east end of Siddharth Nagar on the right banks of River Dano. Itwa on the western end of Siddharth Nagar homes the Sanjeevani hospital and numerous commercial centers.

The Dadwa locality in Siddharth Nagar sited in the middle of the district is popular for its places of worships like Eidgah, Darul Uloom Faizul Rasool, Dargah and many more. The Baraon cemetery is also located in Dadwa. River Nara Nallah flows through this locality. Bansi is another popular locality in Siddharth Nagar located on West Rapti River homes numerous ponds, shopping stalls, entertainment hubs, pilgrims, nationalized banks and it also grounds the Magh Mela ground. 

The localities of Domariyaganj, Sisawa, Kudi and Basdiliya are sited on the banks of River West Rapti. The Domariyaganj locality is popular for its pilgrims. The River West Rapti flows in the middle of Domariyaganj from west to east. 

The Beloha Bazaar is sited on the southern end of Siddharth Nagar. The transport system in Beloha Bazaar is supported by UP SH 68. The locality is popular for pilgrims like Gausiya Masjid & Badi Masjid, commercial centers like Beloha Bazaar market & unique garment store

Siddharth Nagar district has only one Lok Sabha constituency namely Domariyaganj Lok Sabha constituency and the current MP of the constituency is Shri Jagdambika Pal elected to Indian Parliament in the year 2014.

The current MLA for Domariyaganj Vidhan Sabha constituency is Shri Kamal Yusuf Malik.
